If the Directorate of Immigration does not receive satisfactory documents with the application, this may lead to delays of the procedure or in the application being rejected. The Directorate of Immigration may request additional documents if necessary.

The payment receipt should contain information about:
payers name
payers date of birth / ID number (kennitala)

date of payment.
The passport photo should be 35x45 mm. The photo may not be older than 6 months when the application is submitted.

Documents confirming the purpose of the stay in Iceland can for example be:
a letter of invitation from the host,
confirmation of a stay in an artist residency,
documents concerning court proceedings
or a written statement describing the purpose of stay in Iceland.
Applicants must demonstrate that their means of support are secure during the period of time they wish to stay in Iceland. To have secure means of support means that you are able to financially support yourself independently.
Amount
The minimum amount required as secure means of support is:
239.895 ISK for individuals per month.
383.832 ISK for married couples per month.
119.948 ISK additionally for family members 18 years of age or older.
The amount corresponds to the basic amount of financial assistance from the City of Reykjavík, see rules on financial assistance (in Icelandic). The amounts are based on income before tax.
Duration
A foreigner’s means of support must be secure for as long as the long-term visa is valid. This means that if a visa is issued for 90 days, secure means of support for 90 days must be demonstrated.
Documents demonstrating secure means of financial support
Secure means of support can be based on more than one factor, for example both income and equity, such as bank accounts.
Pay slips for the last three months and payment statements for salaries
An applicant may demonstrate earnings by submitting a cash statement or published invoices, as well as the wage bills of the last three months. If an applicant is dependent on another person, that person must submit the wage bills of the last three months that satisfy the same conditions as listed here, as well as the cash statement of that person.
Secure and regular payments
Such payments may be payments from the Social Insurance Administration for disability, unemployment benefits, rent income and grants that the applicant receives for example for research. There is no exhaustive list of the payments that may be applicable here.
Sufficient own funds
A bank statement showing the amount of the credit on the applicant's bank account, in Iceland or abroad. The amount must be in a currency that is internationally recognised and can be exchanged into a currency that is registered with the Central Bank of Iceland and can be withdrawn and used for maintenance. Printing out a statement of account from a local bank is not an adequate confirmation. Information on the registration of currencies can be found at www.islandsbanki.is. If the applicant is on the dependance of another person, the bank statement of that person may be submitted.
A scholarship or a student loan
If an applicant has received a scholarship or a student loan, these payments are considered as guaranteed maintenance if they achieve the minimum amount required. A student loan or scholarship must be in a currency that is internationally recognised and can be exchanged into a currency that is registered with the Icelandic Central Bank. A confirmation of loan payments must be submitted from the relevant credit institution and confirmation of a grant from the grantor, as appropriate.
The insurance must be valid for the duration of your stay in Iceland.
You need to submit a return ticket or proof that you have the means to pay for your return when your stay in Iceland ends.
If necessary, the Directorate of Immigration may request that you submit a criminal record certificate.
If you want someone other than you to receive information about the processing of the application from the Directorate of Immigration, you must submit a power of attorney to that effect.
