Catch certificates
A catch certificate from the Directorate of Fisheries confirms that the catch from which Icelandic seafood products are processed has been caught in accordance with the Icelandic fisheries management system.
When is a catch certificate required?
The European Union requires a catch certificate for most imported seafood products. For processed products, a processing statement is also required.
Products exempt from the catch certificate requirement can be found in ANNEX I of the European Union regulation.
The United States requires a catch certificate for the import of cod.
Japan requires a catch certificate for the import of mackerel.
The catch certificates are standardised and comply with agreements between Iceland, the European Union, the United States and Japan. The certificates cannot be altered.
