Login, authorisation and access control on Ísland.is

Ísland.is's login service offers secure login to public sector web systems.

Login with an electronic ID

Users can choose from three ways to identify themself with an electronic ID:

  1. With Electronic ID by phone

  2. With the Identity app, it allows users to identify themselves in a convenient and simple way. This identification does not require an Icelandic phone card.

  3. Identification with Electronic ID card. Users connect the ID card to their computer and can thus log in.

Login on behalf of others

The authorisations system of the Ísland.is authentication system allows individuals to log in on behalf of companies, public entities, children, and those who have given them a mandate.

A mandate is either granted by an individual or comes about because of a relationship between people. Mandate due to relationships are retrieved from records of the institution responsible for that registration upon login. For example, a company's power of attorney is securely retrieved from the Company Registration from Iceland Revenue and Customs.

  • Parents automatically have a mandate for their children until the age of 16.

  • Power of attorney holders automatically have a mandate over company data and can grant access to others.

When individuals register on behalf of others, they start by logging in with their own electronic ID, then their mandates are retrieved from the authorisation system. Individuals are always logged in to the system to ensure security and traceability.

Grant mandate to others

Individuals, legal entities and public entities can authorise others access to data and services through the Ísland.is authorisation system.

Mandates are granted electronically through My pages Ísland.is
