Application for an operating license of a new pharmacy

The Icelandic Medicines Agency issues licenses for operating a pharmacy if all legal and regulatory requirements are met. If a person or legal entity other than the pharmacy license holder operates the pharmacy, that party is required to apply for an operating license from the Icelandic Medicines Agency, according to Act No. 100/2020.

If the operating license is held by someone other than the pharmacy license holder, there must be a contract between the parties specifying the division of responsibilities. The agreement must particularly address how the operating license holder enables the pharmacy license holder to fulfill their obligations, according to Regulation No. 1340/2022 on pharmacy licenses and pharmacies. A copy of the agreement must be submitted with the application.
