Adoption of Foster Children

For the adoption of foster children, please refer to the information provided on stepchild adoptions. The same considerations and requirements apply, and the procedure is similar.

An application for the adoption of a foster child must also be accompanied by documentation from the child protection committee regarding the placement of the child in foster care with the applicant. This must include either the consent of the child’s biological parents to the foster placement or a ruling/judgment on the deprivation of parental custody.

When applying for the adoption of a foster child, the applicant must provide details of the background to the foster placement and how the foster arrangement has progressed.

The application must also state whether the relatives of a deceased biological parent, who have had contact with the child pursuant to a decision by the child protection authorities, have been informed that an application for the child’s adoption is under consideration. If they have not been informed, the reasons for this must be explained.
