Regarding the adoption of foster children, please refer to information about stepchild adoption. The same considerations and conditions apply, and the procedure is similar.

An application for the adoption of a foster child must also include documents from the child protection committee regarding the placement of the child in foster care with the applicant, such as the consent of the biological parents for the placement of the child in foster care or a ruling/judgment on the deprivation of custody.

When applying for the adoption of a foster child, the background of the foster placement as well as how the foster care has progressed should be described.

It should also be stated whether the relatives of the deceased biological parent of the child, who have had visitation rights with the child according to the decision of the child protection authorities, have been informed that the application for the adoption of the child is under consideration or, if applicable, the reasons why this has not been done.
