“I was the first one in my family to go to university, so I was my own role model”

Although she started out in business school, she knew that computer science was something for her when she took a course in programming. She now works as a back-end programmer after completing a final project for Origo, which became a full-time job after graduation.

Kinga moved to Iceland from Poland when she was 9 years old and her interest in computer games and computer science was sparked when she watched her father play computer games.

“I did this at my own pace”

Sigurður Jefferson recently graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Reykjavík. During his studies he also played handball with HK in the top division and practiced American football.

Sigurður had not given it much thought what to study in university and finally made his decision on the evening he enrolled, but as he studied more, his interest grew. Today, he feels that his studies have helped him on many fronts in life, especially in sports, which have always been his top priority.

“Better odds of success if you put yourself in the situation”

When Birgitta first went to university she enrolled in dental technology, from there she tried odontology, but soon realized that she had chosen her studies based on status rather than interest – so she switched. Now she is studying biochemistry and molecular biology, and says that it is just as important to find out what you don’t want to do, because then you are closer to finding your right path.

“If your studies don’t feel right, just switch”

Eyvindur never imagined he would ever work in a hospital, but after finishing his law degree, he decided to enroll in nursing. He says that the most important thing is to be true to yourself, stop if you feel bored to find something more fun, and let yourself take the leap.
