If there is difference between the Icelandic version and the English, the Icelandic version is valid.
Sea service book serves as identification documents and are confirmation that the person in question is a seafarer. With the captain's endorsement in the voyage book, seamen can manage their seagoing time.
Conditions for the issue of a Sea Service Book:
applicant shall be an Icelandic citizen
applicant is listed in the Register of seamen according to the Legal Registration System
If an applicant is not registered in the Legal Registration System, a confirmation from the Shipowner/Company concerning a job or a confirmed employment contract must be submitted, which is no older than 30 days.
Attachment data
A recent passport-size photo must be submitted on photographic paper. The photo may be sent by mail to the Icelandic Transport Authority at Ármúli 2 or submitted when the book is retrieved.
Processing time
Twelve working days from receipt of documentation and payment. The applicant shall prove his/her identity and sign the Sea Service Book at the Icelandic Transport Authority in Ármúli 2 Reykjavík at the time of delivery.
Costs and period of validity
The cost of the sea service book is according to the tariff of the Icelandic Transport Authority and is valid for 10 years.
