Tax return and tax assessment for individuals
In March each year, individuals must submit a tax return containing all relevant information regarding their tax affairs for the previous year. After the submitted returns have been processed, the taxes for the year are finalised through the annual tax assessment at the end of May.
For most employees, the main information is pre-filled when the form is opened. However, it is important to review all entries carefully, as each individual is responsible for ensuring that the information submitted is correct and add correct information where applicable.
Tax returns is filed electronically through Skatturinn's service portal, where guidance is available for each section (marked with a small question mark).
See also Skatturinn's webpage for instructions.
The filing deadline for the 2026 tax return is 13 March.
