Tariff classification of goods
Special rules apply to the import of vehicles.
Correct tariff classification ensures:
Correct payment of import charges, such as customs duties and VAT
Accurate statistics on imports and exports
Identification of any licence requirements for import or export
If you are unsure about the tariff classification
You can request a binding ruling from Iceland Revenue and Customs. This allows you to know in advance which charges apply, and the customs authorities cannot reassess charges for the product covered by the ruling.
Incorrect tariff classification may result in:
Reassessment of import charges, including default interest from the customs clearance date
Delays in customs clearance
Seizure of goods and fines
You are responsible for ensuring that the tariff classification and all information in the customs declaration are correct.
