Certification of measurement technicians regarding vehicle structural framework and wheel alignment
The Icelandic Transport Authority (ICETRA) maintains a list of those accredited to issue body structure certificates and wheel alignment certificates. Issuing these certificates is part of the repair process for damaged vehicles, but a wheel alignment certificate may also need to be presented for vehicle inspections or modifications.
The measurement technician is responsible for ensuring that the measurement has been carried out in an approved manner and in accordance with the manufacturer's data. It must be ensured that the vehicle's body structure or wheel alignment is correct when a certificate is issued. Violation of the rules regarding the issuance of certificates may result in the revocation of approval.
Certification process
First certification
Attend a course on issuing structural or wheel alignment certificates at Iðan Educational Center.
After completing the course, the individual applies for an on-site audit with Iðan.
Apply for approval from the Icelandic Transport Authority.
If the application is accepted, The Icelandic Transport Authority adds the individual to a list of approved measurement technicians.
Iðan must also notify the Icelandic Transport Authority of inspections of surveyors.
Extension of certification
The measurement technician's certification is valid for 5 years. Before the certification expires, the individual must attend a renewal course at Iðan and pass an on-site audit in order to maintain their rights and reapply for certification from the Icelandic Transport Authority. Iðan shall also notify the Transport Authority about measurement technicians who have completed renewal. When a notification has been received from Iðan and an application has been received from the measurement technician, their certification is extended.
Changes to the Measurement Technician's Workplace or Measuring Equipment
A certified measurement technician must notify the Icelandic Transport Authority of changes affecting their certification. This includes, for example, change of workplace, measuring equipment, or termination of employment. Changes of workplace and/or measuring equipment may require a new on-site inspection, even if the measurement technician's certification has not yet expired.
Revocation of Measurement Technician Certification
The Icelandic Transport Authority shall revoke the certification of a measurement technician who has not attended a renewal course and pass an on-site audit again within the certification's validity period. Violations of rules regarding certificate issuance may also result in the revocation of a measurement technician's certification.
