Visit from the EFTA Court

The European Court of Human Rights held an annual conference for the contact points of the highest courts of the Council of Europe member states from 6 to 7 June.

In November, the Icelandic Law Society organized a trip to Japan. The Supreme Court of Iceland participated in the trip, with five judges and the head of the court’s office.

With today’s ruling, the Supreme Court cancelled the protected status of Jökulsár á Fjöllum, as it was inconsistent with law no. 48/2011 on a conservation and energy efficiency plan.

Laura Baudenbacher, President of the Swiss Competition Commission, visited the Supreme Court.

On New Year’s Day, former Supreme Court Justice Greta Baldursdóttir died.

The Nordic Language Competition was held in Helsinki on 9 and 10 June. The competition was organised by a team from the University of Iceland’s Law Department consisting of Guðjón Þór Jósefsson, Guðrún Sólveig Sigríðardóttir, Margrét Sjöfn Magnúsdóttir, Nói Mar Jónsson and Þorsteinn Davíð Stefánsson.

The Presidents of the Nordic Supreme Courts met in Ilulissat in Greenland on 25 and 26 August.

This week, the Supreme Court received a visit from the students and teachers of the Kvennaskólinn í Reykjavík and Fjölbraut near Ármúli.
