Reassessment of damaged vehicles

Revaluation of a damaged vehicle

Accredited vehicle inspection bodies are authorised to carry out a reassessment of the damaged vehicle I. reassessment may lead to a cancellation of the damage registration or to the deeming of a vehicle as damage vehicle II.

It is possible to request a reassessment of the damage vehicle I within 20 working days from registration on the vehicle register. At the end of this period the vehicle is automatically registered as damage vehicle II and must undergo an approved repair procedure if it is to be registered again in circulation.

A reassessment shall be carried out before repairs are commenced. If repairs are begun, the inspection body is not authorised to carry out reassessment. It should not be assessed as having begun repairs if simple items have been opened or dismantled to better establish the nature of the damage, though this is preferable to the case in consultation with the inspection body which is asked to reassess the damage. A fixed tyre crack may also be fitted.

When the assessment of damage vehicle I is carried out, the vehicle shall be brought to the inspection body as a rule, but the inspection body may also carry out an inspection of the vehicle outside the inspection body.
