Issue and delivery
The registered owner of a vehicle, or a person with written authorisation from the owner, can visit the Icelandic Transport Authority, purchase a registration certificate and receive it on site. A registration certificate can also be ordered electronically using the application above and is sent by post to the owner’s registered address.
Registration certificates are only issued in Icelandic and are not available in electronic form. The certificate is printed on approved security paper with embossed features.
It is not mandatory to carry the registration certificate in a vehicle in Iceland. The Icelandic Transport Authority therefore only issues a registration certificate when specifically requested.
