The Icelandic Transport Authority issues vehicle registration certificates.
The registration certificate contains key information about the vehicle such as:
the vehicle identification number (VIN)
registration number (vehicle number)
vehicle's date of first registration
engine size
number of seats
permitted trailer weight
Issue and delivery
The registration certificate is sent to the registered owner’s legal address.
It is not mandatory to carry the registration certificate in vehicles in Iceland. It is not issued unless specifically requested.
The certificate is not available in electronic form. It is printed on approved paper with embossed elements to increase security.
