The Icelandic Transport Authority enforces the laws and regulations that fall under the agency's scope and are implemented by ministries or Alþingi, including all EU regulations regarding aviation.

The Regulation for Aircraft Continuing Airworthiness Part-M applies to all EASA aircraft. The rules require the management and maintenance of aircraft, often managed by a Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO), with the objective of:

  • manage and organise aeroplane maintenance

  • to determine the release of aircraft for service after maintenance

  • present an oversight process through airworthiness review, which may lead to the issuance of an airworthiness certificate

Part-M, does not apply to those aircraft classified as "Annex II" (without EASA type-certificate) such as ultralight aircraft, experimental aircraft, historical aircraft, etc.
