Information from the vehicle register

The Directorate of Communications is the controller of vehicle records and handles the dissemination of information to processors.

The Directorate of Motor Vehicles shall record the vehicles in circulation, the owners/operators, and record certain technical details of the vehicles. This information is recorded for the purposes of official vehicle controls and the mandatory obligation to register. This information is not recorded in order to be relied upon in a legally governed entity. The Directorate of Communications therefore recalls the buyer's inspection obligation and the seller's obligation to provide information in motor vehicles.

Processors

Processors are those who have concluded a contract with the Icelandic Transport Authority on the processing of data and its forwarding to users.
