When withholding tax was first introduced, this information was recorded on tax cards kept by employers. Tax cards were discontinued as of 2016 and are no longer used.

Keeping track of personal tax credit information

Employers establish the procedures that best suit each workplace in order to verify that the employee’s wishes regarding the use of the personal tax credit are followed.

What should be done with old tax cards?

Following this change, old tax cards are no longer valid and have no legal effect. Employers are permitted to dispose of tax cards belonging to current employees once appropriate measures have been taken, as well as tax cards of individuals who no longer on payroll.
