Permit to transport passengers and freight - Notification of a new category of use

Operators holding passenger and freight transport permits must notify which vehicles are part of their operation at all times. This applies both when adding a vehicle or removing one from the permit.

At the beginning 2025, Regulation No. 1085/2025 on the abolition of license inspections came into force, introducing, among other things, the following changes for permit holders in passenger and freight transport:

• License inspections of vehicles in passenger transport are abolished
  

• All vehicles that belong to operating licenses must be registered in the use category Vehicles for passenger transport or commercial freight transport
  

• An annual general inspection follows the use category

  • If the inspection frequency of a vehicle changes due to an annual general inspection, you must obtain the appropriate inspection ticket at the nearest inspection station.

This usage category registration will be free of charge until May 1st. After that time, the registration will be charged according to the Icelandic Transport Authority's tariff.
