The Icelandic Transport Authority has published information on its website for people planning to travel, sail or operate drones in connection with the total solar eclipse on 12 August.

The website provides information on the permits required for passenger transport by sea. These requirements include safety equipment, appropriate insurance and adequate crew complement to help ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

People planning to operate drones are asked to familiarise themselves with the applicable rules, including operating restrictions, airspace information and other requirements. Information on the relevant regulations, permits, registration requirements and drone maps is available on the Icelandic Transport Authority’s website.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration has also published information on its website relating to the total solar eclipse. The website includes information on road closures and traffic management measures. Traffic management will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the eclipse and will remain in place for as long as necessary. Reduced speed limits can be expected, and motorists are encouraged to be patient.

As before, the authorities recommend that people living within the path of totality watch the eclipse from their homes or in their local area, helping to reduce pressure on transport infrastructure.
