Confirmed Regional Marine Plan

The East Fjords regional marine plan was confirmed by the minister in March 2023 and took effect on publication in the Official Gazette.

  • The planning area of the East Fjords coastal zone plan covers fjords and bays from Almenningsfles in the north to Hvítingar in the south.

  • The boundaries of the planning are defined by "netlög", which lies 115 m from the main high-water mark at spring tide. The administrative boundaries of municipalities are also based on this coastal baseline. At sea, the planning area extends to a reference line defined in the Act on Fishing within the Icelandic Fishery Zone, which largely follows the baseline of the territorial sea.

  • The planning area is connected to the municipalities Fjarðabyggð and Múlaþing.

Further information on the process behind the planning can be found here and the document generated in the planning process can be accessed below.
