Specialist in General Medicine hired to psychiatric ward at SAk

Fjóla Björnsdóttir, specialist in general medicine, has been employed in a 75% position at the psychiatric ward at the hospital in Akureyri, as of 1 October 2024.
Fjóla was awarded a specialist doctorate in general medicine in 2015. She trained at LSH and worked as a head physician from 2001-2003, as a district physician at the Healthcare Institution of East Iceland in 2003-2006, as a department physician and special education doctor in the neurological department at Sahlgrenska Sjukhuset in Gothenburg in 2006-2007 and as a doctor and special education doctor at Dalvík Health Centre - the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland in 2009-2015.
Fjóla has worked as a specialist in general medicine in Dalvík and has worked as a specialist in the rehabilitation and geriatrics ward at SAk in Kristnes the last few years.
Fjóla will work primarily as a specialist alongside the psychiatrists at the ward She will also participate in the development of multidisciplinary team work and the development of the service.

The psychiatric ward at the Hospital in Akureyri plays an important role in the service of adults with mental disorders in the north and east of Iceland and provides day- and outpatient services.
