Bergþór Jónsson has been hired as an emergency medicine specialist at the emergency room of SAk.
Bergþór worked at SAk between 2016-2019 and then moved to the United States where he studied emergency medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and additional specialty training in emergency medicine for children at Children's Minnesota. He has an Icelandic and American specialist license in emergency medicine and will soon attend the American specialist examination in emergency medicine for children. Bergþór is also a paramedic, a guide in specialized resuscitation for adults and children, a rescue team member and a first aid instructor at the rescue team Súlur.
The Akureyri Hospital is in a great effort to strengthen the emergency services of SAk. There are about 17 thousand emergency arrivals per year and the emergency room is relatively newly renovated and well equipped with equipment. In addition, the emergency room of SAk has been recognized by the Assessment and Qualification Committee for special education in Iceland to educate specialized medical students in emergency medicine and can have a good morale.
