Five Icelandic entities receive grants from Creative Europe Culture for 2025

Icelandic cultural institutions and artistic activities achieved outstanding results in the Creative Europe Culture allocations for 2025. In total, five Icelandic partiesreceived grants from the programme, and the grants to Icelandic participants amount to a total of €619,049.
The result is particularly noteworthy given that over 1,600 applications were received in the cooperation projects category, making the competition fiercer than ever.
The National Gallery of Iceland leads a million-euro cooperation project
Most notably, the National Gallery of Iceland is leading the cooperation project CUSP: Creative Understanding, Saving and Preserving Time-Based Media Art, which received a grant of 1 million euros for three years.
The National Gallery of Iceland's share amounts to 405,000 euros, and this is the second time an Icelandic entity has led such an extensive cooperation project within Creative Europe.
The project aims to enhance knowledge and skills in the preservation of time-based media art, such as video works, sound works, digital works, and performances. The project spans the entire lifecycle of such works, from creation to long-term preservation, and includes, among other things, artist residencies, research, the development of preservation standards, emergency response plans, and environmentally friendly solutions in digital preservation.
Partners include the National Museum in Norway, LiMA in the Netherlands, Vasulka Kitchen in the Czech Republic, and Mystetskyi Art Arsenal in Ukraine, as well as the Vasulka Foundation, the University of Iceland, and the Iceland University of the Arts.

Tjarnarbíó connects artists in Europe's peripheral regions
Tjarnarbíó is participating in the project Creative Peripheries – From the Arctic to the Amazon: A Network for Europe’s Peripheral Artists.
The project is led by Compagnie Théâtrale Guyanaise from France and received a grant of 183,557 euros, of which Tjarnarbíó's share is 29,232 euros.
The project's goal is to strengthen collaboration and visibility for artists in Europe's peripheral regions, from the Arctic to South America.
Hafnarhaus works on a climate project with arts and culture
Hafnarhaus is participating in the project CARE: Climate Artivism, Resilience and Engagement, which is led by Izyashtni Dela in Bulgaria.
The total grant for the project is 200,000 euros, and Hafnarhaus's share is 42,873 euros.
The project harnesses the power of arts and culture to promote environmental awareness, civic participation, and the resilience of young people in the face of climate challenges.
The Iceland University of the Arts researches social and geological transformations
The Iceland University of the Arts is participating in the project Shaken Grounds: Art as Seismography, which is led by Muzej Suvremene Umjetnosti.
The project explores the connections between geological, social, and psychological transformations using the methods of contemporary art.
The total grant for the project is 199,881 euros, and the Iceland University of the Arts' share is 34,596 euros.
Art for All in a collaboration on children's culture
Art for All, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Universities, is participating in the project HARK! Helping Art Reach Kids.
The project is led by Västra Götaland Region in Sweden and brings together 19 partners from 12 countries.
The project's focus is on music events for and with children, as well as strengthening cultural liaison work and student participation in cultural councils.
The total grant for the project amounts to 1,698,494 euros, and Art for All's share is 107,349 euros.
Creative Europe supports international cultural cooperation
The 2025 allocations show that Icelandic cultural institutions are sought-after partners in Europe and are actively involved in the development of new knowledge, research, and artistic creation.
