The Radiation Safety Authority

Role and history

The Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority is the national authority and regulatory body in matters concerning radiation protection. The activities of the Icelandic Radiation Protection Authority are under the auspices of the Icelandic Ministry of Health.

The Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority’s role is defined in the Act on Radiation Protection, no. 44/2002. The authority's objective is to ensure adequate safety measures against radiation from radioactive materials and radiation equipment.
