Insurance coverage

Information on the NTÍ insurance

All buildings in Iceland are insured by NTÍ. If your inventory or movable property is fire-insured at Sjóvá, TM, Verði or VÍS, it is insured against natural disasters at NTÍ. Insurance companies shall be responsible for collecting premiums for NTÍ of 0.025% of the insurance amount, both for buildings and for endowments or movable property.

NTÍ will make good direct losses caused by:

  • volcanic eruption

  • earthquake

  • landslide

  • avalanche

  • water flooding

Examples of events that are not liable for compensation are included in the NTÍ.

  • Flooding due to aqueous discharge/ashyness and cloud fall.

  • Storm and landslides.

  • Heavy snow, when property is sliced or broken by snow.

The own risk is 2% of each damage, but never less than ISK 200,000 for the building and movable property and ISK 400,000 for the building.
