Re-education - firewood from your own garden

In partnership with the Reykjavik Forest Association, the Agricultural University of Iceland's Re-Education Programme is pleased to announce a new firewood course in Heiðmörk on Thursday, February 13th.
The course will cover the felling of smaller trees for firewood, wood splitting techniques, and proper drying methods. They will also discuss the properties of various wood species and their suitability for different fireplaces. Furthermore, the curriculum will address fire safety, fireplace types, and fire risk mitigation strategies.

Harvesting and processing smaller trees.
Tree species and their properties.
Wood drying, curing, and moisture content.
Fireplace maintenance and safety.
Kindling and fire suppression techniques.
Fire risks associated with gardens and holiday cottages.
For whom?
This course is designed for individuals seeking to utilise branches and tree trunks generated from home or vacation property garden maintenance. The optimal season for harvesting firewood from such locations is now commencing.
Instructors: Sævar Hreiðarsson, Forester and Forest Ranger, Heiðmörk; and Teitur Björgvinsson, Supervisor of Wood Production and Trade, Reykjavík Forestry Association.
Date and Time: Thursday, February 13th, 4 PM - 7 PM.
Course Format: The course incorporates both theoretical and practical components. Participants will engage in hands-on firewood harvesting from a sample garden. The Reykjavík Forestry Association will conduct the course at Heiðmörk, utilising the association's wood processing facility and surrounding areas, providing an optimal practical training environment.
