Reykir Horticultural School, in collaboration with Iðan Educational Centre, will conduct a furniture-making course utilising forest materials. This course will be held on Saturday, March 8th, at the Árnes Forestry Association's Snæfoksstaðir, Grímsnes facility. Registration closes February 20th.

The course is open to all, and particularly relevant for carpentry instructors, educators, summer camp personnel, forest landowners, forestry professionals, craftspeople, and anyone interested in learning forest-thinning material construction techniques.

This course covers ...

• furniture construction techniques using wood from forest thinnings,

• material selection based on wood characteristics,

• stool and bench assembly from various wood sources (branches, trunks, boards),

• processing of both fresh and dry materials (de-barking, shaping),

• furniture assembly, finishing, and surface treatments.

All necessary tools and materials are provided; participants are advised to wear appropriate work clothing. Each participant will complete at least one stool to take along, and often more.

Instructors: Bjarki Sigurðsson Land og skógur Hallormsstaður, Björgvin Örn Eggertsson, forester at the Garden School - FSu Ólafur G.E. Sæmundsen forestrytechnician.

Time: Saturday, March 8, 9-16 (8 hours) at the Árnes Forestry Association facility in Snæfoksstaðir, Grímsnes.
