Continuing Education at the Agricultural University of Iceland is offering a two-day course on 23 and 24 September covering wetland restoration, the importance of wetland ecosystems, and professional approaches to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating restoration projects.

The course is organised in collaboration with Land and Forest Iceland and Peatland LIFEline. It draws on specialist knowledge and practical experience of wetland restoration in Iceland. Participants will gain an overview of the role of peatlands in nature, including their importance for biodiversity, hydrology, climate, ecosystem services and more.

The course comprises lectures, discussions, project work and fieldwork. It is suitable for anyone involved in planning, advising on, implementing, evaluating or monitoring wetland restoration projects. Part of the course will take place in the vicinity of the university campus, where participants will receive practical training in identifying, mapping and assessing wetland sites.

  • Credits – The course is worth 1 ECTS credit at university level.

  • Venue and time – The Agricultural University of Iceland at Hvanneyri in Borgarfjörður and the surrounding area, Wednesday 23 September and Thursday 24 September, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on both days.

  • Fee – ISK 50,000, including specialist tuition, lunch, and morning and afternoon refreshments on both days.
