Chainsaw Tree Felling and Thinning Course
23rd October - 25th October 2026
09:00 to 16:00
Miðvangur 2-4,
700 Egilsstaðir

This course is open to everyone. It is suitable both for beginners and for those who already have experience using chainsaws but wish to improve their tree-felling techniques or gain a better understanding of chainsaw maintenance and care. The maximum number of participants is 10.
The course combines classroom instruction with practical field training. The first day focuses on theory and covers topics such as tree-felling techniques, safety procedures, and correct body positioning and ergonomics when working with a chainsaw. Participants will also learn about permits and safety considerations related to tree felling in urban areas. The course includes guidance on selecting trees for felling and introduces the principles of thinning in forests, tree stands and landscaped areas.
On the second day, participants will become familiar with the components of a chainsaw by dismantling and reassembling the machine. Instruction will cover basic fault-finding and troubleshooting, routine maintenance, cleaning procedures and chain sharpening.
The final one and a half days will be devoted to practical training in tree felling and forest thinning. Particular emphasis will be placed on safe and effective felling techniques and on the correct processing and stacking of timber.
Participants who own a chainsaw, chainsaw protective trousers, chainsaw boots or a safety helmet are encouraged to bring their equipment. Necessary equipment can be borrowed during the course if required.
