Detailed description

This project investigates the use of lupine as a cultivation medium for black cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa). We are analysing the impact of clonal variation, seedling length, and tillage methods on black cottonwood cutting establishment within lupine fields. Further investigation focuses on the effects of varying lupine densities and fertiliser levels on black cottonwood sapling growth and survival. Funded by the Hjálmar R. Bárðarson and Else S. Bárðarson Memorial Fund, data analysis was completed and findings presented at the April 2019 Forestry Conference in Hallormsstaður. A new experimental plot was established in early May, with fall re-measurement of existing plots. Ongoing monitoring continues, assessing the influence of planted lupine on seedling survival and growth.
