Heading off on your summer holiday? Remember to pack these items
These items are useful to take with you on your travels this summer:
Medicines for all family members
Remember to pack enough medicine for everyone in the family for the duration of the holiday. How easy it is to obtain medicines can vary depending on your destination. It is important to store medicines under the correct conditions. For example, avoid leaving medicines in a car for long periods, as direct sunlight and heat can affect their quality.
Plasters and blister plasters
As enjoyable as getting new shoes can be, few things are more uncomfortable than blisters. Pack blister plasters so you can keep walking for longer.
Painkillers and fever-reducing medicines
If someone in the family is injured or becomes ill, it can be useful to have painkillers and/or fever-reducing medicines with you. Many such medicines are available without a prescription at your nearest pharmacy.
Cooling creams and local anaesthetic creams
Insect bites, stings and sunburn can cause itching and skin pain. Cooling creams or local anaesthetic creams containing lidocaine are suitable for relieving itching and similar discomfort.
Travel sickness medicines
If someone in the family suffers from car sickness or seasickness, taking travel sickness medicine may be necessary, particularly if you are planning a boat trip or long car journeys. Some people even experience symptoms on amusement park rides. Medicines for these symptoms are available over the counter at pharmacies, where you can also buy wristbands that may be sufficient in some cases.
Medical devices
Remember to bring any medical devices you need for personal use, such as needles for injectable medicines, a blood glucose meter, an inhaler for asthma medicines and a thermometer.
