20th July 2023
Specialists from the Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority monitored the movements of a nuclear-powered submarine today.
Today specialists from the Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority monitored the movements of a nuclear-powered submarine in Icelandic waters, and provided technical advice on emergency preparedness and radiological monitoring. Nuclear-powered submarines do not cause radiation to the environment nor to people where they pass, and the primary purpose of radiological monitoring is to confirm that this is the case.
The visit from the submarine was reported on the Facebook-page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (status from 20th July 2023).
