A total of 390 – 507 workers carried a personal dosimeter annually over the period at 59 different companies and institutions, with 88% – 91% of them working in the healthcare sector and veterinary medicine.

The annual average effective dose in the years 2014 – 2024 ranged between 0,07 mSv – 0,17 mSv for all workers and between 0,27 mSv – 0,37 mSv for workers who received a dose above the recording level.

Regular monitoring of equivalent dose to the skin with finger dosimeters was initiated in 2017 for employees working with radioactive sources in medicine. The annual average equivalent dose to the skin ranged between 0,2 mSv – 10,4 mSv during the period 2017 – 2024.

Also reported are estimated occupational doses for flight crews. These are based on reports from two to three air carriers for the years 2014 – 2024. The annual number of workers with reported dose ranged between 1265 – 3738 and the average effective dose ranged between 1,0 mSv – 2,6 mSv. Flight crew personnel are the largest group of occupationally exposed workers in Iceland and they receive the highest average annual effective dose in Iceland.
