Become a blood donor
The Blood Bank is always looking for healthy individuals who are willing to donate blood when needed. If you are between the ages of 18 and 65 and are interested in becoming a blood donor and giving quality blood, please book an appointment for your first visit.
You must present identification with your name and personal identification number at each visit.
First visit
During your first visit, a nurse will greet you and go over questions regarding your health (pdf). Blood pressure and pulse will also be measured.
Blood samples will be taken to check:
Your blood type
Whether you have red blood cell antibodies
Blood counts regarding red and white blood cells and platelets
Your iron stores
Whether you have diseases that can be transmitted through blood, such as HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis B and C
After the interview and examinations, you will receive refreshments in the cafeteria.
During the visit, you can schedule an appointment for your first blood donation. If the blood tests show anything concerning, you will be contacted before that appointment.
First Blood Donation
Once you are approved as a blood donor, you will receive an SMS for confirmation.
The first blood donation can take place 2-3 weeks after the initial visit.
