Applications for grants are being made to the Memorial Fund for the couple Bergþóra Magnúsdóttir and Jakob Júlíus Bjarnason.

Memorial fund for Bergthóra and Jakob is operated under the supervision of the Directorate of Health and operates under confirmed charter, compare laws on the same subject. The purpose of the Fund is to strengthen quality and scientific work in Icelandic healthcare. Quality in healthcare means that healthcare is safe, timely, effective, based on non-discrimination, user-centered and effective.

Grants from the Fund may be granted to well-defined quality and improvement projects or to scientific research authorised by the Scientific Ethics Committee. Grants for quality projects give priority to projects that enhance patient safety and grants for scientific research give priority to cancer research.

Projects shall have clear objectives and shall state the expected results and the manner in which results will be evaluated. A progress report shall be submitted after the completion of the project. Grants shall not be granted for the operation of institutions or associations, conferences or projects operated for the benefit of the applicant. Grants shall not be granted to individuals except by institutions, establishments or associations.

This time, the allocation will be up to ISK 15 million and grants from ISK one to three million can be applied for. The board of trustees consists of the Director of Health, the President of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Iceland and the Director of Iceland Health. The board of trustees decides on grants after a professional evaluation by the commentator.

The deadline for applications is through 1 August. and the allocation is set for September. Applications are made on the fund's website. Electronic applications are only accepted.
