Contract for the operation of 50 public day-care centres
24th July 2023
Iceland Health and the Health care Höfða ehf. have concluded an agreement on the operation of 50 public day-care facilities for elderly persons at Höfðabakka 9 in Reykjavík.
The contract is valid for five years from July 1, 2023.
The objective of the contract is to provide users with personalized services in order to increase and maintain functionality in their daily lives and postpone as long as possible the need for a nursing home. The service will be adapted to the needs of each user so that individuals living at home receive appropriate support. This will create continuity in the service.
For the time being, the service will be available every weekday from 8-17. Users of the service can attend it daily, on specific days each week or part of a day. The aim is to adapt the opening hours of the service to the needs of users so that opening hours will be extended, that is that it will be open until 21 all working days and on Saturdays from 8-16, with the exception of special holidays and big holidays. This will be the first public day-care service in the capital area with flexible opening hours. The level of service to users will therefore be increased and better met by the needs of older people living at home and their families. This is in line with the Parliamentary resolution on the Action Plan on Services for Older People 2023-2027.
The home care service of Reykjavík, health centres in the capital area, health institutions, hospitals and specialist doctors can refer to the service.
