Technical aids
Payment participation for technical aids
Health insurance contributes to the cost of buying technical aids such as wheelchairs and hospital beds.
A healthcare professional will fill out an application for you.
In the application, the employee justifies the need for the assistive device with a diagnosis, medical history, and other information.
If an application is approved, you will receive a letter about it in the digital mailbox on My Pages.
Then you have the right to have the assistive device subsidized.
You may buy 2 months’ supply at a time.
You can always see all information about the status on My Pages. There you can see what percentage of the cost is paid by Iceland Health and for how long (1 year, 5 years, 10 years or more).
Once the application has been approved, you will be told where you can pick up the device. If you offer to have the assistive device sent home, you do not pay for the delivery.
Devices can be returned to Iceland Health.
If you are outside the capital area, you can send the device to Iceland Health with Eimskip Flytandi. You do not pay for shipping.
Eimskip Flytandi also transports larger aids such as beds that do not fit in regular cars.
It is important that your ID number is included so that Iceland Health registers the returns correctly.
Health insurance contributes to the cost of necessary assistive devices for the driver's disability or for passengers in wheelchairs.
