New SCT at HVE
14th October 2024
A new CT device has been introduced to the diagnostic ward of HVE hospital in Akranes.
It is a much more advanced and faster-acting device than the old one, which was from 2015 and has passed the normal lifetime. The old device was 16 slices, but the new one is 64 slices and the image quality has also increased greatly. This new device gives possibilities for researching smaller blood vessels, e.g. in the neck, brain and to the kidneys, which was not possible before and therefore saves travel to research in Reykjavík.
CT scans are a basic equipment that must be in place in diagnostic wards in hospitals and research is increasing. In 2023, the number of CT scans increased by 10.2% from the previous year and totaled 2,323 inpatients and inpatients in the outpatient ward.
HVE welcomes this milestone in improved research equipment that the Ministry of Health allowed the Institute to purchase by providing funding for most of the purchase price of the equipment.
