The Icelandic Medical Association has called strikes, which will begin on Monday, November 25th, if no agreement is reached by that date and will cover doctors who work under the collective agreements of the Icelandic Medical Association.

The first round of strike action will be held from Monday 25 November to Thursday 28 November and will be valid from midnight (00 am) to 12:00 pm every day or 12 hours a day.

If a strike occurs, it will affect the services of doctors at HVE, but in varying degrees depending on the establishment.

All emergency services will be carried out, but the strikes will affect booked appointments and doctors’ interviews at most healthcare centres between 08-12. Also, interviews with doctors in the outpatient ward and mirrors at the hospital in Akranes.

Selective surgery at the hospital in Akranes will be cancelled from 08-12 these days. As doctors will be at work at 12 am, it is planned that surgery can begin at 12:30 pm.

HVE clients who have a scheduled appointment/operation at an appointment that includes a scheduled strike could expect appointments to fall short and are advised to pay close attention to the morning of strike days.

The effect of the strike will not be felt at the following healthcare centres HVE

  • · Grundarfjörður Health Care Centre

  • · Healthcare in Hólmavík

  • · The healthcare centre Ólafsvík

  • · Healthcare in Stykkishólmur
