1700 telephone consultation

In the past year, efforts have been made to improve and integrate services and advice for illness and emergency with telephone consultation at 1700, which is provided by the Information Centre for Health Care in the Capital Area (HH).

The experience of telephone consultation 1700 shows that with specially trained staff, a large part of inquiries can be resolved with telephone consultation and online chat. These services have been increasingly used by individuals in the HVE area.

On May 16th, a further step will be taken at HVE health centres in cooperation with the Information Centre of HH. The procedure is based on an experimental project that was started with the healthcare center in Akureyri in the summer and has been extremely successful. Acute matters will be sorted through the telephone number 1700 and the online chat of Heilsuvera before arrival at the centre. Those who need them will be given an appointment the same day or the day after. With this we want to ensure the right service at the right place and time. This will save clients time as they can get information and advice immediately instead of attending the clinic directly.

Call 1700 all day and online chat is open from 8:00 to 22:00 every day of the week.

Acute messages and advice regarding illnesses are now sent through 1700, which gets them right-way within HVE health centres. Note that the emergency number remains 112 and people are advised to call that number if needed.

Please note the following message cannot be reached by phone:

  • Drug renewal

  • Results of studies

  • Call times with doctors

  • Certificates and references

To support this change as best as possible, the telephone answering service on HVE will be coordinated and changed so that the telephone answering service will offer a choice for acute business and advice for illness, which gives the person concerned contact to 1700.

  • Advisory services and advice - a nurse at 1700 assesses acute emergencies and is on duty throughout the day and gets matters right.

  • Contact with receptionist - appointments.

  • Information on renewal and contact with the appropriate parties at the time of opening of the pharmacy telephone.
