Changes to Digital Licences – Removed from Digital Wallet Apps
1st July 2025
As of 1 July 2025, digital driving licences will no longer be available in digital wallets. This change aims to promote a more secure and consistent use of digital licences by making them accessible through a single trusted platform – the Ísland.is app.

What does this mean for you as a user?
If you currently store your digital driving licence in a digital wallet on your phone, you will, as of 1 July 2025, need to access it in one of the following ways:
Via the island.is app
By logging in to island.is in a web browser
Your digital driving licence remains fully valid and can still be shown on your phone – just not through a digital wallet.
Existing licences stored in digital wallets may continue to be used until 30 August 2025. After that date, digital licences will only be accessible through the island.is app.
How do I access my digital driving licence?
Download the island.is app from the App Store or Google Play
Sign in using electronic ID
Select “Licences” from the menu
Your licences will appear with a barcode and photo
More information about digital driving licences is available here on the District Commissioners’ website.
