Request for documents

You may request the return of original documents and copies of documents that you have submitted to the Directorate of Immigration. You may also request copies of documents related to your case for a fee.

How do I request documents?

To request documents, send an email to skjalavarsla@utl.is.

Your request must include:

  • Your name.

  • Your ID number (kennitala) or date of birth.

  • Which documents you are requesting.

    • If you request original documents, you must state whether you want to:

      • Pick them up at the Directorate of Immigration’s office, or

      • Have them sent to your registered address by cash-on-delivery mail.

    • If you request copies of case documents, you must state whether you want to:

      • Receive them electronically via a secure data portal,

      • Pick them up at the Directorate of Immigration’s office, or

      • Have them sent to your registered address by cash-on-delivery mail.

Who can receive the documents?

Only you or your authorised representative may receive documents related to your case.

If another person collects the documents on your behalf, a valid authorisation (power of attorney) must be provided.

If the representative is a lawyer, an employee from the same law firm may collect the documents on their behalf.

Cost

If you request copies of documents, a processing fee must be paid.

  • Photocopies/transcripts: 300 ISK per page

  • Electronic copies of documents:

    • 300 ISK per page for pages 1–10

    • 150 ISK per page for each page beyond 10

If you request the documents to be delivered electronically or sent by cash-on-delivery mail, a processing fee must be paid and the receipt submitted before the documents will be sent.

Processing time

Processing requests for documents may take up to 10 working days.

You will receive an email notification when the documents are ready if you have requested to pick them up at the office.
