Here you can find useful information if your application to renew your residence permit has been rejceted.
Your renewal application has been rejected
If your application for a residence permit has been refused, you are given 15 days to appeal the decision to the Immigration and Asylum Appeals Board. The deadline for appealing starts when you receive the Directorate of Immigration's decision.

The Appeals Board does not require the appeal to be in a particular format. However, the name and appellant’s date of birth should be stated in the appeal as well as an e-mail address and/or phone number so the appellant can be reached while the appeal is being processed by the Board.
The appeal may be sent by email to postur@knu.is or via Signet transfer, it does not need to also be submitted in paper form. There is also an online appeal form on the Board's website.
The following information should be included:
The appellant's full name.
Birth date.
Nationality (and, in some cases, the recipient country).
Relationship between individuals, if an appeal is made for a family.
What kind of decision is being appealed.
If you applied to renew your residence permit before your previous permit expired, filing an appeal suspends the legal effect of the refusal. This means that while your appeal is being processed by the Immigration and Asylum Appeals Board, your legal status remains the same as if the Directorate of Immigration had not refused your application.
If you did not apply to renew your residence permit before your previous permit expired, filing an appeal does not suspend the legal effect of the refusal. This means that you must leave Iceland within the time limit specified in the rejection decision,. If you do not do so, your stay in Iceland will become unlawful, which may result in your expulsion and a re-entry ban.
If you applied while in Iceland, and you were given a deadline for departure, you will have to leave Iceland before the deadline passes.
If you do not do that your stay in Iceland will become illegal, which can result in expulsion and refusal of re-entry.
You may request the return of original documents and copies of documents that you have submitted to the Directorate of Immigration. You may also request copies of documents related to your case for a fee.
