A food-related E. coli outbreak has been confirmed at Mánagarður preschool in Reykjavík, traced to a specific strain, STEC serotype O145.

30th October 2024
Last week, an outbreak of E. coli (STEC) infection occurred among children at Mánagarður preschool in Reykjavík. Investigations into the source of the infection began on the same day the first diagnosis was made, with the preschool closing the following day.
25th October 2024
A total of 23 children associated with Mánagarður preschool in Reykjavík have now tested positive for E. coli (STEC) via PCR testing. Samples at the Department of Microbiology and Virology at Landspítali University Hospital are also sent for bacterial culture for confirmation, which take longer to process.
24th October 2024
In week 42 (October 14-20), 29 people were diagnosed with COVID-19, either through PCR testing or clinical diagnosis (a doctor’s diagnosis without lab tests), a similar number to the previous week.
