In this version, previous recommendations for hospitals and those for primary health care and medical offices have been merged into a single set of guidelines that took effect on October 1, 2024. The primary goal was to preserve the key values of past recommendations, such as avoiding unnecessary registration, simplifying the registration, utilizing coded information, and adapting to changes in healthcare. Consideration was also given to healthcare changes, such as legislation updates, increased electronic registration, electronic data transmissions and the growing reliance on data in health records.

Work on revising the recommendations began in 2021 and numerous people participated. We would like to thank everyone for their contributions and hard work.

The new recommendations apply to the minimum health data recording in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare. They only define minimum data recording and its standardization, but registration in health records concerning individuals' communication with health services is usually more detailed.

Electronic health record systems must be adapted to these new recommendations, both in terms of documentation and standardization, so that they meet the requirements that have been made. Health service operators will have two years to adapt their systems to these recommendations.

In the coming months, the Directorate of Health will present the new recommendations on minimum data recording in healthcare to the main stakeholders.
