Digital licences are increasing
21st October 2022
The digital driving license was presented with a bang in the spring of 2020. Now more digital licenses have been made available and more are on the way.
The first digital license was issued in Iceland in the spring of 2020. The digital driver's license paved the way for other public licenses. Today, more than half of those with driving licenses have reached the digital version on their phones.
Digital licenses for machinery rights, ADR rights, and firearms licenses have now been added. Those individuals with those rights can view them in the Ísland.is app and on My pages at Ísland.is. If one wants the rights in one's phone wallet, one can download them through My pages Ísland.is and the Ísland.is app. More licenses are on the way, as well as making passport information available.
The total number of people who already have digital machinery rights is 8676, and 462 have digital ADR certificates.
In addition, a scanner has been developed, which is available in Ísland.is the app that gives users a chance to verify whether a certificate is valid. Instructions on how to do this are in the following video.
Information on rights symbols is provided to Ísland.is app and My pages in Iceland.is by web servers directly connected to the work systems of the institutions that provide the service.
