What is an electronic mandate?

With an electronic mandate, individuals can log in on behalf of others and thus have access to information and perform various actions for them. Read more about electronic mandates. The aim of the changes is to make it easier for people to see what electronic mandates they have, find the mandates they need, and grant others access to services on their behalf.

At the same time, the service has been given a new name and is now called Electronic Mandates and is accessible through My Pages, but was previously called Access Control.

A better overview of your mandates

Under My Mandates, the overview of electronic mandates has been improved. There, users can see mandates they have granted or received and find answers to common questions about electronic mandates and their use.

Simpler to find and grant the right mandate

The process of granting a mandate has also been improved. It is now possible to grant the same mandate to more than one person in a single action, and mandates are categorised by service categories.

Users can also search and filter mandates by institution and circumstances. This makes it easier for people to find the relevant mandates at any given time without needing to know the names of individual services or mandates in advance.

Multiple mandates selected together

One of the biggest changes is a new way to select mandates that are related to specific circumstances or services. A user can thus select more than one applicable mandate into a kind of “basket” and grant them together.

This can apply, for example, when an individual needs to grant another person several related mandates due to specific circumstances. Instead of finding and granting each mandate separately, it will be possible to select them together and complete the granting process in one go.

Examples of how mandates are useful for individuals:

• A relative can monitor My Pages on Ísland.is for a parent or family member who has difficulty accessing digital information, for example, due to old age or illness.

• An individual who does not have an electronic ID can register an agent to handle matters on their behalf, for example, submitting applications.

Examples of how mandates are useful for business operators:

• Apply for a mortgage certificate or a certificate of no debt.

• Notify of a vehicle co-owner or deregister a vehicle.

• Report a work-related accident.

• Monitor a company's Digital Mailbox on My Pages Ísland.is and access financial information related to the public sector.

Limited role

Please note that electronic mandates through Ísland.is have a limited role and are only valid with the public entities that have activated them. They are therefore not useful, for example:

• As a mandate for relatives to gather information and/or perform financial actions in banks. Banks have forms for such mandates.

• As a mandate to handle the filing of tax returns. These must be applied for at the Icelandic Tax and Customs.

• As a mandate at pension funds. Pension funds have forms for such mandates.

• As a mandate to collect prescriptions. Such a mandate can be set up through Heilsuvera.

The changes are part of the ongoing development of electronic mandates on Ísland.is, with the aim of making the service simpler and more accessible for users.
