Iceland holds fifth place in a survey of digital public services and infrastructure in UN member states.
Iceland holds the fifth position in the UN’s survey of digital public services and infrastructure. Iceland’s score has increased since the last survey, which is conducted every two years.
Iceland’s position in the E-Government Development Index (EGDI):

Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs:
Icelandic government investment in digital services, not least through the Digital Iceland and Ísland.is, is showing visible results. The UN E-Government Survey is a clear sign of this.
The UN review examines how well the countries are doing with digital services and considers three factors:
Digital services
Communications infrastructure
Human resources and competences
The review is intended to compare how countries are doing with regard to user-friendly digital services, digital infrastructure, and competence and how well countries use information technology to make services accessible to individuals and businesses. The survey can therefore be used to learn from the good practices and thus influence digital services policy.
The table below describes the measured factors in the E-Government Development Index (EGDI):
Features | Subsections |
---|---|
Digital services | Institutional framework |
Service provision | |

The results of another European survey, the EU eGovernment Benchmark, give the same indication, where Iceland ranks 4th according to the last results.
