Digital Health began operating on 2 January 2026 and falls under the Ministry of Health. Its director is Sigurður Þórarinsson.

Innovation is flourishing within the healthcare system, but it is fragmented and oversight is limited. The role of Digital Health is to bring this work together in one place, prioritize projects and ensure, through coordinated procurement, that solutions benefit the healthcare system throughout the country.

We work with the entire healthcare system and the innovation community on secure infrastructure, continuity of services and putting the latest technology to good use.
