Digital Health began operations on 2 January 2026 and reports to the Ministry of Health.

Innovation in the healthcare system is extensive, but it is fragmented and lacks a clear overview. Digital Health's role is to consolidate and lead innovation in healthcare services, prioritise projects, and ensure that solutions benefit the healthcare system throughout the country.

The General Director of Digital Health is Mr. Sigurður Þórarinsson.
