Noise certificate

Application for a Noise certificate

All aeroplanes and helicopters type certified by EASA are required to be issued with a noise certificate

On the EASA website, you can find information on approved noise levels for all types of airplanes and helicopters which have an EASA Type Certificate. Problems in finding the right noise level mainly arise if aircraft have been modified before the establishment of EASA (28 September 2003) and certification of modifications has not been conducted by EASA. In these cases, there is sometimes a shortage of information available to EASA. The basic regulation of EASA (1592/2002) defines basic requirements for environmental protection based on Appendix 16 to the Chicago Convention (ICAO).

Implementation

A noise certificate shall be issued to each aircraft when it is registered in the aircraft register and issued with Icelandic registration letters.

These certificates need only be renewed if changes are made to affect the aircraft sound level to a possible level as changes to the AFM.

  • engines

  • propellers

  • maximum weights

A new certificate must be issued if

  • the registration letters (TF-) of the aircraft are changed

The noise certificate shall be made available at all times together with any other documentation belonging to the aircraft.

Issuing certificates

Noise certificates are issued to those civil and instructional aircraft holding a valid airworthiness certificate. A fee is collected for the issuance of noise certificates.

  • Those aircraft already on the register of aircraft which are currently unfit for airworthiness are issued with a noise certificate, alongside a new airworthiness certificate, if such a noise certificate has not already been issued.

  • In the event that insufficient information is available, the missing data are requested.

  • A lost noise certificate can be re-issued for a fee.

Laws and regulations

The EASA Sound Level Certificate is issued on EASA Form 45 by the Icelandic Transport Agency in accordance with Part I of Part 21 of the Regulation  nr. 380/2013.
