Applications requested for grants to the Occupational Safety and Health Fund
The Administration of Occupational Safety and Health is inviting applications for grants to the Occupational Safety and Health Fund. The fund's goal is to promote research in the field of occupational safety and health and to contribute to improved occupational safety and health in the Icelandic labor market.

The Occupational Safety and Health Fund is a collaborative project between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing and the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health. It is intended to support projects and research aimed at strengthening research in the field of occupational safety and health and promoting improved occupational safety and health in the Icelandic labor market. The first grants from the fund were awarded in 2024.
The deadline for submitting applications to the fund is Thursday, March 27. The goal is to award grants in April 2025.
Interested parties are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules for awarding grants from the Occupational Safety and Health Fund in more detail, but when evaluating applications, particular attention will be paid to projects and research that concern the relationship between individual diseases and work-related symptoms and the working environment.
Eligible applications also include projects and research related to:
social and economic benefits of occupational safety and health
causes, frequency and development of occupational accidents in certain professions
positive image and public attitude towards occupational safety and health
raising awareness of individual groups in the labor market about occupational safety and health, such as employees who do not understand Icelandic, young people, and employees who perform risky jobs.
knowledge of the importance of a good workplace culture
the relationship between poor working conditions and employee absenteeism
increased public awareness of work-related burnout and how to prevent it
innovation in the field of occupational safety
response to the impact of increased automation and technology on the work environment
the impact of integrating teleworking and on-site work on occupational health and safety
The quality of the research or project plan, along with scientific value, novelty, and importance, is the basis for assessing the eligibility of applications, in addition to the education and qualifications of the applicants.
The fund's board is responsible for evaluating grant applications and is composed of representatives from the ASI Icelandic Federation of Labour, the SA Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise and the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health.
The Occupational Safety and Health Fund has 10 million ISK to allocate in 2025. The maximum grant for an individual project is 4 million ISK.
